Heads up and phones down! Preparation for construction on theLloyd4U is underway. You might have noticed large electronic signs alerting drivers to tree clearing along western portions of the Lloyd. Lane closures will change as the crew moves, so stay alert and keep safe. The tree clearing will be complete by the end of March as part of an environmental commitment, made by the Indiana Department of Transportation, to clear trees while bats are typically still in caves. Tree clearing is done during the fall/winter months to limit the environmental impact to the Indiana Bat species. During the summer months, bats often will roost, forage and travel in wooded habitats. Construction on the Lloyd4U will begin in late March/ early April at the intersections of Stockwell Road and Vann Avenue.

To improve the flow of traffic on the Lloyd and create safer intersections, reduced conflict intersections (RCIs) are planned for Schutte Road, Middle Mt. Vernon Road, Felstead Road and McDowell. This innovative intersection design shifts left turns away from the intersection, eliminating dangerous angle turns that cause the most serious crashes.

Drivers will still be able to make left turns from the Lloyd onto Schutte Road. All other left turns will be made by turning right and using a median U-turn. The same concept will be used as part of a hybrid solution at Stockwell Avenue.
