New ramp configuration to reopen Tuesday
The southbound I-69 exit ramp to westbound Lloyd Expressway is expected to reopen on or after Tuesday, April 7, about 10 days earlier than projected, with a new configuration and a new traffic signal.
The previous crescent-shaped ramp that allowed motorists to merge onto westbound Lloyd traffic has been replaced with a signal-controlled T-shaped design. The design is identical to the northbound I-69 to eastbound Lloyd ramp to that was installed for the Epworth displaced left turn intersection.
The signal allows vehicles entering the expressway to safely access the future displaced left turn lane at Cross Pointe or join westbound traffic.
Drivers heading eastbound on the Lloyd should look for the new signal just west of I-69 and be prepared to stop.
West Side activity
Closures also are planned early this week at the Schutte Road and Boehne Camp Road intersections, south of Lloyd Expressway only.
A 14-day closure at Schutte Road is expected to begin on or after Monday, April 6. A 30-day closure at Boehne Camp Road is expected to begin on or after Tuesday, April 7.
Both roads will be closed to through traffic but will remain accessible to local traffic up to the construction area.
Middle Mount Vernon Road and Broadway Avenue are suggested detours for the Schutte closure. Middle Mount Vernon also is an option for those needing an indirect route to Boehne Camp.
Work at Schutte Road is primarily pavement replacement. Work at Boehne Camp Road is more extensive and includes curb and gutter work, inlet installation, and pipe work.
As part of the Lloyd4U West Side efficiency and safety improvements, the intersection at Schutte Road is planned to become a Restricted Crossing U-Turn, with eventual northbound and southbound traffic limited to right-in, right-out movements only. Left turns from the Lloyd to Schutte will still be permitted.
The intersection at Boehne Camp Road is scheduled for improvements that include a northbound left-turn lane and the addition of both southbound left- and right-turn lanes.
