Lloyd4U Legacy - Ink and Impact
For this month’s edition we wanted to explore the opening chapter in our look back at the highway’s origins while also catching you up on the latest Lloyd4U improvements.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Lloyd Expressway. It’s an important milestone for our community’s most vital east-west connection.
For four decades, the Lloyd has served as a backbone for mobility, adapting to changing needs while remaining a key route for residents, commuters, and visitors alike. As we celebrate this legacy, we also look ahead. The Lloyd4U project represents the next chapter in the corridor’s evolution, an opportunity to build on the past while preparing for the future.
This anniversary is not just a reflection on where we’ve been, but a moment to consider where we’re going. By reflecting on the history of the Lloyd Expressway and investing in thoughtful improvements, we are helping ensure it continues to serve the community for decades to come—supporting growth, improving travel, and strengthening connections across the region.

West Side Activity: Construction closures after Memorial Day
Red Bank Road
Plan ahead! On or after Tuesday, May 26, a small portion of Red Bank Road south of the Lloyd will be closed. Motorists heading south on Red Bank from the Lloyd should use the posted detour. The intersection at Pearl Drive will remain open, allowing traffic to cross between retail areas. The closure is expected to last up to two weeks, weather permitting.
University Parkway
Beginning on or after Tuesday, May 26, University Parkway eastbound ramps on the south side of the Lloyd will be closed. Eastbound traffic will need to use a detour. Westbound ramps will remain open. This phase is expected to last approximately 30 days. Drivers should watch for signage, follow posted detours and allow extra travel time.
East Side Activity – Delays at Burkhardt & Cross Pointe
Motorists on the Lloyd should plan for short stoppages of traffic at both the Burkhardt Road and Cross Pointe Boulevard intersections on or after Tuesday, May 26. Stoppages in both directions will last approximately 15 to 20 minutes, occurring multiple times per day between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. through Friday, May 29. (Please note that inclement weather may delay the conclusion of work until the following week.) The stoppages are necessary to allow project crews to install overhead traffic signal strain pole wires and cables.
