What a Night for the Lloyd!
The replacement pedestrian bridge at Lloyd Expressway and Lemcke Avenue was installed overnight on Thursday, July 9 and Friday, July 10. It was an impressive operation, carefully coordinated by the project team, with two cranes lifting the bridge in place.
This new pedestrian bridge spans the eastbound and westbound lanes, measures 177 feet long, and connects to ramps on both sides. It was designed to accommodate current and future travel lane needs.
Its predecessor, a 117-foot-long overpass that dated to 1957 and holds many memories of Evansville’s past, was demolished and fully removed in October 2025.
Every milestone brings us one step closer to a safer, more connected corridor.
Two years in, Lloyd4U on schedule
Did you know? Summer 2026 marks the two-year anniversary of the Lloyd4U makeover, which is improving safety and efficiency through more than two dozen projects.
We appreciate the patience of drivers who have adjusted their commute times, taken alternate routes, or experienced delays during construction. Those temporary inconveniences are helping make the Lloyd Expressway safer and more efficient for years to come.
The good news? Lloyd4U remains on schedule to wrap up major construction by the end of 2028. As you’ll see in this highlight video, the project team set ambitious goals, reached key milestones and is wrapping up most projects this year.

Sharing Memories
The name Lloyd4U is all about the people who use the expressway today – and those who traveled east and west across Evansville in the past!
One of those travelers is Jeff Dyer, a former Evansville resident whom we connected with after seeing his posts in a Facebook group. After learning more about his interest, we invited Jeff to share his memories in an article you can read on our website. Take a look at Time is the tie that binds.
Construction is moving along. Here’s what happened this summer:
West Side Activity
- Rosenberger Avenue intersection work was completed ahead of schedule with restrictions lifted.
- University Parkway eastbound ramps on the south side of the Lloyd reopened on time following a 30-day closure.
- Changing work locations, lane restrictions and flaggers have all been part of a complex improvement project as crews poured an intermediate layer of asphalt in the eastbound lanes at multiple active intersections in a nearly five-mile work zone from Posey County Line Road to Rosenberger Avenue. Intermediate paving is scheduled for Thursday, July 30, and Friday, July 31, weather permitting.
East Side Activity
- Intermittent lane restrictions and closures at both sides of the hybrid intersection at Stockwell Road were completed.
- The Burkhardt Road intersection work that restricted turn movements and required detours was completed ahead of schedule, with the aging pavement replaced
- Have you noticed the distinct burgundy color as you go through the Lloyd and Stockwell Road intersection? Crews applied a high-visibility coating to the concrete dividers in the center medians and adjacent curbs to improve the visibility.
Traffic signal wiring is underway on the Lloyd at Burkhardt Road and Cross Pointe Boulevard so expect occasional short stoppages to accommodate the work.
Displaced Left Turn
The first set of data is in for the year-old intersection at the Lloyd Expressway and Stockwell Road following the installation of the hybrid displaced left turn. Early results are really encouraging with fewer crashes, reduced travel times, and improved corridor efficiency. Learn more by watching this short video: The Lloyd4U Stockwell Hybrid Intersection
