Project Milestone

Construction on the Lloyd4U recently reached the one-year mark! We are happy to share the project schedule is right on track. In this first year, the signal was removed at Vann Avenue and improvements at Stockwell Road were recently completed.  We have seen significant progress on the westbound lanes of the Lloyd between Barker Avenue and Posey County Line Road. New expanded bridges are going up and pavement replacement is underway.

Progress can require patience – we appreciate the courteous drivers that pay attention to construction speed limits and take turns at merge points. We have seen an increase in subscriptions for our email/text alert tools. Please continue to use the project website to check for traffic updates and plan your travel times.

Lloyd4U is just one example of INDOT’s commitment to creating safer, smarter roads—and getting Hoosiers home safely every day, as you’ll see in our commemorative video.

Reminder: East side improvements update

Here’s a reminder about the current changes to traffic patterns (see detailed map below). The restrictions are to accommodate construction of dual displaced left turns at Burkhardt Road and Cross Pointe Boulevard.

All construction areas will be protected with traffic barrels and/or temporary concrete barrier walls. Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes, anticipate delays, and consider off-peak travel times.

Other ongoing work:

East side activity

The outside lane of eastbound Lloyd Expressway is closed between Green River Road and I-69

The outside lane of westbound Lloyd Expressway is closed between I-69 and Cross Pointe
West side activity

Single lane closures on the Lloyd Expressway between Barker Ave. & Posey County Line

Boehne Camp Road north of the Lloyd is closed for 30 days through mid-August

School’s in Session!

Sharpen those pencils – it’s time to head back to school, kids! The first full week of August marks the beginning of a new school year for the EVSC. 22,000 students and 3,400 employees will be back in the classroom.

You can help by keeping an eye out for stopped school buses and kids in crosswalks. Let’s all help make sure everyone gets back to their desks safely and securely.

Construction Coordination

The Transportation Management Plan for this project was developed in collaboration with the police, sheriff, and fire departments. Construction phasing, closures, and detours were discussed with them and revised based on their input. During construction, our team sends notices to these groups and others—including the EVSC—to keep them informed of each upcoming phase.

Local law enforcement is aware of the closures and is best positioned to make decisions regarding patrols and enforcement. However, we regularly share community concerns with them and will pass along your comment as well.

Be sure and stay on top of closures by signing up for text and email updates.

Thanks for Watching

Education is a key endeavor for us.  Our video about how to drive the Stockwell Hybrid intersection, which opened in June, was watched more than 15,000 times.
Hybrid refers to two innovations at one site. The redesigned Lloyd Expressway features a displaced left turn on the north side and a median U-turn-style boulevard left turn on the south side with a wide enough shoulder to accommodate large vehicles’ turn radius.
