A Progress Report
The Lloyd4U project team is pleased to provide a progress update on overall construction as we enter the final year for the current projects.
The Indiana Department of Transportation reports that construction is on schedule across the corridor, with most segments nearly halfway complete or more.
Despite fighting Mother Nature, we’re right on schedule with a dozen improvement projects. Current projects under construction will wrap this year. Pavement replacement from Ingle Avenue to Wabash Avenue will begin next year, as well as improvements to the intersections at St. Joe and Wabash Avenue. Those improvements will be completed in 2029.
We appreciate all that motorists have done, from adapting to lane closures and short stoppages to lowering speed limits and navigating crossovers.
- You’ve adjusted to alternate traffic patterns and new traffic signage and modified your commutes to decrease congestion at our busiest intersections.
- You’ve even embraced new habits that demonstrated kindness to fellow motorists such as learning how to zipper merge.
- You have adjusted to new turn requirements and redesigned intersections, learning how to navigate Displaced Left Turns and a new Boulevard Left Turn.
- You’ve watched as we incorporated solutions such as glare-fighting black/white pavement lane markings that improve visibility and bridge-building techniques that maximize durability, such as T-Wall technology.
There’s more to come. So, whether you are one of our over 4,000 email subscribers, 2,000 text-alert recipients, or 2,700 Facebook followers, stay with us!

East Side update
Installation of overhead traffic signal strain pole wires will mean periodic short stoppages of both eastbound and westbound lanes of the Lloyd at the Cross Pointe Boulevard and Burkhardt Road intersections. Installation activity will be dependent on the road surface being clear of snow and ice.
The daytime stoppages will occur in February and March between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. CDT and last approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
We’ll let you know in advance which days to expect the stoppages.
Thanks for your patience with the new traffic pattern currently in that East Side corridor. Eastbound motorists are now traveling in two protected lanes beginning just west of Brentwood Drive to I-69. This traffic pattern is expected to remain in place through summer 2026.
West Side update – Tekoppel short-term closure
In January, crews switched traffic to the new westbound lanes of the Lloyd Expressway. The switch marked the completion of three new wider bridges at Tekoppel Avenue, the CSX railway and Carpentier Creek for the future westbound lanes.
With traffic switched, work now begins to build the bridges for the eastbound lanes. That work includes demolishing the old bridges. To do that, Tekoppel Avenue will need to be closed temporarily where it is crossed by the Lloyd. To avoid disruption for bus riders, walkers and car riders at Tekoppel Elementary School, work will begin after 3:30 p.m. once dismissal is completed today, Friday, February 6. Detour signs will direct motorists around the closure in the same way as the demolition of the westbound bridge.
Happy Valentine’s Day

We know it sometimes feels like the orange barrels have taken up permanent residence on the Lloyd Expressway, but remember they are a sign of good things to come.
Most of the barrels will leave for good by the end of 2026. And while road safety is no laughing matter, and the presence of orange construction barrels can be challenging, we appreciate you respecting their purpose as we work to stay on time, on target and safe.
The men and women in the field are your neighbors, and they love working on a project that will be of benefit to users of the Lloyd for years to come! They put their “heart” and soles into every foot of asphalt.
